Quiet Place for Drinks

I'm looking for a casual place to have some drinks in Westwood or West LA. My friend suggested Q's, but that's too noisy to hold a good conversation. Can anybody recommend another place that's casual, yet quiet?

  1. O'Brians pub on 27th (?) and Wilshire

      O'Brien's isn't a bad idea, but it's at 23rd and Wilshire.

Arsenal on Pico at Bundy is another idea.

    2. san francisco saloon - pico west of sawtelle
or the bar at the landmark theater in the westside pavilion

      1. Philly West is a divy bar on the east side of Westwood Blvd. just south of Santa Monica Blvd. They are rarely crowded, the place is fairly dark, and you can either sit at the bar or be served at the tables. The drinks aren't too expensive, and if you get hungry they serve a fine cheesesteak and an even better burger. Also important, there is convenient free parking in the shared lot behind the restaurant, accessible from the sidestreet to the south.

If you are looking for something more upscale, Tanino is the Italian restaurant that for the last decade has occupied the former Alice's on the west side of Westwood Blvd. in the Village. Gorgeous rooms, huge bar, tiled floors, some patio tables -- never overwhelmingly busy as far as I can see. Napa Valley Grille on the bottom of the revamped glass office building that formerly housed Monty's on top has a bar inside and nice outside patio seating. You might also check out the newish Yamato in the former Eurochow in the heart of Westwood Village before they go out of business -- usually fairly deserted and an amazing bit of architecture and interior decoration. There is a bar or two at the W Hotel in what used to be the Westwood Marquis, and the former Doubletree on Wilshire at Selby has been taken over by the Palomar chain, updated, and they have an upscale restaurant with a bar called Blvd. 16.

        1. Daily Pint at Pico and 23rd in Santa Monica would also work. Same as Del's at Santa Monica and Bundy. Fair warning that both are somewhat divey.
