TN: Two Pinots from 2004

2004 Navarro Pinot Noir, Méthode à l'Ancienne (Anderson Valley AVA, California): Dusty garnet in color, clean and clear; the nose decidedly more Burgundian in general character, with rose petal, cherry blossoms, cherries, raspberries, forest floor, mushroom, a hint of leather, and light oak; in the mouth, the wine is medium-bodied, silky and supple, with good acidity and generous flavors already showing a layered complexity on the elegant palate ; the finish is long, lingering, and flavorful. Wonderful!

2004 Sonoma-Cutrer Pinot Noir, Estate Bottled (Sonoma Coast AVA, California): Very different, yet no less delicious, this is clearly a bigger, riper, more densely concentrated wine, yet readily identifiable as Pinot Noir, yet more obviously in the "California mode"; dense, ripe fruit, red berries with a hint of black; more upfront oak, but not overwhelming, on both the nose and palate, with full flavors, good depth and balance; the finish is flavorful, long, and delicious. Also a wonderful wine . . .

    1. I have long thought of the l'Ancienne as a very, very good QPR
