A Father's Office "must have"... not the burger.

Tonight I was in Santa Monica with a few friends and we stopped for a quick bite at Father's Office before heading to the movies. Yes, I had the burger, which quite honestly was only ok (a tad overdone), but that's not the story here. One of the specials was an appetizer of roasted figs, stuffed with cabrales cheese and wrapped in bacon. There were four of us, and the dish came with four of the figs. After one bite, we all wanted our own and we ordered 4 more. The bartender said (in hushed tones) that it was her favorite thing they served. Thou shalt not blaspheme the burger! Seriously though, I don't know how long they will be serving this, but if you're there and they have it, get it!

    Had their figs last month - I thought they were so-so...

    But hey, if they rock your world, then by all means have more!

    p.s. Ask for the Office Burger to be prepared "rare" - a much better experience.

      I did order it rare. It came out medium well. We were in a hurry so I ate it.

      ...but thanks for the advice on how to order a hamburger.

        It sounds wonderful. I love figs and a variation on bacon wrapped dates is a great concept. It's funny you say your burgers have come over done. I always order medium rare and they have always been just to the rare side of medium rare. If I see that fig dish on the menu I am going to be sure to get an order (or 3). How was the crowd in SM? Do you think the LA branch is taking any of the pressure off the original location?

          Yes, I was there about 6:15 the other night, and it was pretty mellow. A few tables empty. If I remember correctly, that was not the case the last few times I was there at that hour. And my burger was slightly overcooked as well, sadly. But delicious.

            Empty tables are symptomatic of the general economic slump. Maybe good for diners, but a cook friend has had his hours cut because of it.

            The L.A. location is taking away some people, but it's still a crapshoot on a weekday evening at the SM location because it's so small. I've been a few times of late where there was no line outside at 630p but once inside, it was standing room only with minimal table turnover. On other random weekday nights, there will be a small line out front. In all, the LA branch has made lines out front more of a rarity whereas it was a normal sight on weekday evenings.

        I was there Sunday, had the burger for the first time and was underwhelmed. Mine was cooked to perfection, medium rare spot on, but the problem for me was the lackluster toppings and so so bun. Guess that's part of the deal there. It was decent but I think I put it on a burger pedestal and had higher hopes. I was much happier with my burger from fords i had a while back, one of the best I've had in twnon. At 5:30 on Sunday the tables were full but there were 6 or so spots at the bar. By the time I left the crowds were hovering for my spot at the bar.
