I ordered a chicken gyro sandwich that I liked. The taziki sauce was nice and garlicy, the other members of the family had stuff that was just ok,popcorn shrimp basket, not crispy enough for me, kids had a waffle which was good, and pasta with a meatball, too full to taste that so I can't comment on it. All in all, if was typical of a decent diner. But my dish was good enough that I would order it again. They also give you a family style salad, and a little dessert with all meals at dinner. Oh - the rice pudding was really good too. Dinners were on the expensive side, but they looked huge. Will definately return. Its a nice addtion to Rt. 303. They tried too hard to make things different so they added too many extra ingredients to most of the salads and sandwiches - chicken, with ham and bacon and honey mustard and then topped with some kind of raspberry sauce... too much stuff. Each visit, I ordered the lunch special which comes with a soup. On 2 of 3 occasions, I asked for a small salad in place of the soup, which wasn't a problem, and I wasn't charged $$. On the 3rd occasion, the waitress told me she would have to charge me for a side salad, which was fine. Now I have no problem paying for a substitution, but $6.37 for a side salad, yes a SIDE salad, is a rip off in a Diner, especially for a salad made with cheap iceberg lettuce, a few tomato wedges, and a couple of skimpy strands of onion and watered down dressing. Glad to have the Northvale Diner as an alternative, the only problem with Northvale is it gets pretty crowded at lunch!! One day, though, I noticed that they were tacking a charge onto my bill for takeout. I guess for the takeout container. I've never seen that before and it annoyed me enough not to return.
