American Dream Diner Blauvelt NY

michele cindy Aug 23, 2008 04:46 PM

We just came back from a decent diner dinner at the new diner on Rt. 303 in Blauvelt. It was enjoyable. I ordered a chicken gyro sandwich that I liked. The taziki sauce was nice and garlicy, the other members of the family had stuff that was just ok,popcorn shrimp basket, not crispy enough for me, kids had a waffle which was good, and pasta with a meatball, too full to taste that so I can't comment on it. All in all, if was typical of a decent diner. But my dish was good enough that I would order it again. They also give you a family style salad, and a little dessert with all meals at dinner. Oh - the rice pudding was really good too. Dinners were on the expensive side, but they looked huge. Will definately return. Its a nice addtion to Rt. 303.

I went for lunch last week with my co-workers. We all agreed it was ok and the prices were way too high for OK food. They tried too hard to make things different so they added too many extra ingredients to most of the salads and sandwiches - chicken, with ham and bacon and honey mustard and then topped with some kind of raspberry sauce... too much stuff.

The health department closed them down right after they opened for violations. Thats enough reason for me not to go..........

The violations were all about paperwork and had nothing to do with any health threat, real or imagined.

I've eaten at this diner 3 times because of it's convenient location to work, and although not great food, it was acceptable for a Diner.

Each visit, I ordered the lunch special which comes with a soup. On 2 of 3 occasions, I asked for a small salad in place of the soup, which wasn't a problem, and I wasn't charged $$.

On the 3rd occasion, the waitress told me she would have to charge me for a side salad, which was fine.

Now I have no problem paying for a substitution, but $6.37 for a side salad, yes a SIDE salad, is a rip off in a Diner, especially for a salad made with cheap iceberg lettuce, a few tomato wedges, and a couple of skimpy strands of onion and watered down dressing.

Glad to have the Northvale Diner as an alternative, the only problem with Northvale is it gets pretty crowded at lunch!!

I would speak with the manager if you go back again. I really think the waitress made an error. They've been pretty accomadating on times when things weren't going smoothly with our orders. I think they're hurting for business.

Michele, I spoke to one of the owners who was working the register. I've been told they also own New City Diner, which explains everything to me. .

I haven't been back since my initial post, however my co-worker said they were rude to him when he was there a week or so ago.

I work near there and have been there are few times for take out. I found the food bland and boring but it was convenient. One day, though, I noticed that they were tacking a charge onto my bill for takeout. I guess for the takeout container. I've never seen that before and it annoyed me enough not to return.

Two of us ordered a bagel and coffee. As an afterthought I asked for some cream cheese. When I got the check the bagel, the charge for the plain bagel was $1.85 - the charge for the bagel, with cream cheese was $4.15. Asked the waiter if this was an error and he sheepishly said no. Spoke to the arrogant, cocky cashier who thought it was humerous. If this isn't ripping off the public, I don't know what is.

I've been there twice and their Disco Fries are to die for! Portions equal price.

Disco fries = fries smothered in cheese and gravy (definitely not waist-friendly but SOOOO good!)

The Northvale Diner is a way better option in this area. I gave American Dreams a few chances but I will not go back again.

The sad thing is there is a lot of potential that is lost. I just wish someone could go in there and whip them into shape.

Stopped in once for lunch as it is near work. We all agreed we would not go back. Prices way too high for mediocore (at best) food. Go south on 303 to the Northvale Diner, they have great lunch specials at a fair price.

Definitely a rip-off spot. Don't order anything unless you see ALL OF IT on the menu. They will tack on outrageous charges. I am filing a formal complaint with the Better Business Bureau.
