Labor Day is the best food day in Brooklyn. (Second best is the Atlantic Antic in the end of September or first week in October). It is the day of the Caribbean Labor Day Parade on Eastern Parkway. There a literally hundreds of vendors selling Roti, Codfish Cakes, Jerk Chicken, etc. A great food fest.

The labor day parade is on labor day (Monday) on Eastern Parkway in Brooklyn. There are some pre-parade events including Jouvert, late in the night before, there might be some paint throwing then, but Ive not seen that during the parade itself. If your priority is the food, coming earlier in the day, around the time the parade begins is probably best because the crowds take a while to build up.

I can't tell you the answer, but a great source is www.eatingintranslation.com, which, if you are not familiar with it, is a really great blog put together by one of our own, Dave Cook. Every Friday he outlines the food happenings over the weekend.
