unripe pineapple problem

Freshdirect just delivered an unripe (green and well hard) pineapple. I was going to make fruit salad with it, but this will be one of those that are not sweet and just bite the tongue pineapples.

I know I can't make it ripen off the plant (or can I?).

Should I roast it with rum and sugar? Or is that just a waste of rum and sugar?

Any suggestions?

Thanks all.

    1. Put it in a paper bag and seal. Let it sit on your counter overnight and the ethylene gas with help to expidite ripening. It could be a whole new fruit tommorow!

        1. I can never find pineapples that are ripe in my area. I buy them, put them on top of my fridge, and don't cut them up until I can smell them. Generally when they become really fragrant, they're also perfectly ripe. The time it takes varies, but I've not lost one yet. I just trust my nose.
