Aruba Restuarant Reccomendations
Hi foodies,
Any restos with good food and modern atmoshpere, but within $80-100 for two before wine....We already have reservations to a couple of nicer spots (Madame J, Screaming Eagle) and looking for a few that are a bit more reasonable..
Thanks in advance!
Not sure what you mean by modern. Casa Tua which is outside in Arawak Garden has good thin crust pizza and DH had chicken parm that he could cut with a fork. Make sure you are under cover at MJ's because if it has rained the bugs are bad. Under cover has fans! Bingo's for their burger especially with curly fries. Other food is good as well. Go to www.visitaruba.com and/or www.aruba-bb.com and look at their reviews. We enjoyed Gianni's and are going back. (We're in Aruba now) Also Texas de Brazil. We found El Gaucho to be VERY good this trip and our guests thought it was their best meal. We then go across the street to the cigar bar for music.

Flying Fishbone. Try to get a res just before sunset if available, but after dark is also pretty neat. Best tables are outside on the beach with a few tables and chairs that are IN the water.
Passions at the Amsterdam Manor.
Have a look around here: http://www.restaurantsaruba.com/

With all due respect - the Flying Fishbone's food is okay but it is really the setting that is good. New place near them called Old Fisherman is supposed to have same setting but better food. Passions gets their food from across the street at Amsterdam Manor so it has to be brought over.

Old Fisherman is in downtown Oranjstad, not really on the water but might be what the OP is looking for. The Flying Fishbone was one of the better "nice" places we ate at in Aruba and has an unbeatable location. We found the food on the island as a whole was just average. There were several disappointments at places others consider great.

Sorry, meant to say "Old Man and the Sea". I always love people saying that - what did you find that you didn't like? I know that there are some average meals and some very good ones and some totally bad - Just like any place else. Location is not unbeatable - Old Man beats it! Mirandi beats it and so does the food.

Overall, the food was decent everywhere we dined, just nothing was outstanding. Seemed like a bunch of the places were nice and had atmosphere, but average food.
The Old Man and the Sea wasn't open in July. Looks nice, though.
French Steakhouse was nowhere near the quality we are used to in the Boston area. When leaving Manchebo, we wished we tried the other restaurant there - Giorgio's instead.
Moomba had a very limited menu and horrid service. Our "waitress" was one of the worst I've ever had. Not a mean or bad person, just not very good at all at service.
Matthew's Beachside, Sunset Beach Bistro, and the poolside restaurant at the Divi Village Sea Breeze Cafe were acceptable, but not memorable. Mulligan's was a good place for lunch and drinks. Didn't try Windows.
We had a good meal at El Faro Blanco.

We haven't been to French Steakhouse for 10 years. Reviews are still bad. Ate at Moomba's once - that was enough. Gianni's for Italian, Bugaloe for a lunch on a pier, Texas de Brazil or El Gaucho for steak, Casa Tua for pizza. Don't like Mulligan's much as it is overpriced. Windows has an unacceptable menu although the setting and music are great.
