Lenox, MA area Fancy yet Casual

I'm planning a family getaway for my father's special birthday. So I'm looking for something that is fancy enough for my father (who has somewhat traditional tastes and expectations of elegant dining) but that's not going to be aghast at serving a well-behaved kindergartener as well (who is going to want something simple like pasta). Any ideas?

Traditional, not too fancy and also good for well behaved children..... Aster's, just north of Guido's in Lenox. Good food, good service and decent ambiance. Agree about skipping Zinc. You might also consider Rouge in West Stockbridge, even Maggie's(the owner) kids are present usually.

Chowmensch'ssuggestions are very good but I wouldn't bring anyone to Zinc.
WE've been thereseveral times and the food was all right but the service was just lousy.
      That's JMO.
We've given the place several chances and they flunk out each time.
Cafe' Lucia is another good choice in Lenox (their osso bucco is outstanding)and if the Red Lion Inn wasn't such a rip-off I would suggest you try there for "tradional" dining in an old, elegant dining room.
The food is way over-priced for what you get however.

Actually, I agree with catnip on the service at Zinc. I was there last week and we ate in the bar area which is very nice and surprisingly not as loud as the main dining area. Our poor server seemed very harried and was apparently responsible for tables in the bar area as well as in the main dining area. It seemed to us that they were very understaffed. Food was very good, however, (try the duck appetizer) and since we weren't in a big hurry the bad service wasn't a big issue for us. I also agree on Lucia's osso bucco (to die for).

Zinc, Church St. Cafe or Chez Nous (Lee) would all seem to fit the bill....
