do buffet brunches still exist?

  • 6

i just came back from european vacation and had a few festive and grand brunches in a couple of the nicer hotels we were in over the weekends. they all did the classic big buffet, which i only ever remember trying in nyc a number of years ago at the plaza. i'm sure there must be more though somewhere...

doesn't have to be at a hotel, but who has an old school feeling buffet sunday brunch?? would love to have a couple spots on reserve in the back of my mind to shake up the weekend brunch options. bonus points for included drinks or champagne and live music.

thanks guys!

  1. There have been some recent posts about the buffet brunch at Aquavit - haven't been though.

ya its very specifically a smorgasbord which means a ton of herring and smoked fish, some hot dishes and some other stuff, but nothing like a serious brunch buffet-style thing.

Brasserie 8 1/2 is excellent: many choices, continually refreshed, carving station, omelette station, dessert bar -- the works! Definitely old school feeling.

      2. 2 West
        South Gate
5's at The Peninsula (limitless Champagne with live jazz piano)
Church Lounge @ Tribeca Grand Hotel
        Beacon - Bottomless Bloody Mary's
        Seppi's Resto - Live Jazz
        Buddha Bar

        1. Water club does an excellent one - not hotellish at all.

Turkish Kitchen also has a maddening middle-eastern array for sunday brunch.
