Panaderia Patrol: Guadalajaran Birote found, South Bay

Well, I think I have found the best tasting bolillo I have encountered in SD county thus far.

Panaderia Guadalajara in National City on Highland Ave [Next to Birrias, Chivos & Cheves and just north of Menuderia Don Vicente ] makes a boillo or "birote" in Tapatio speak that rivals what I had in Jalisco. So delicious was this simple roll - it made me almost sad out of nostalgia.

I can forsee many homemade tortas and ahogadas in my future with this great resource of a bakery at hand. With the level of pan making put into their rolls I am interested to try their other stuff so stay tuned.

Have you sampled the ones at fresh and easy, I know it's a british import chain, but I thought they looked pretty good ( although did not buy one.)

I haven't but I think I saw them at the Fallbrook F&E. Its really cool that in an area heavily populated by an immigrant work force they realize they should offer traditional foods ie pan dulce - but the iceing on the cake was seeing packaged tripe for Menudo iin the meat section there!
