Please Help Good brunch within walking distance of the MET, free drink and outdoor seating a plus!

It would be awesome if they took reservations as well. Any type of food really- just as long as it's good and somewhat nice. Thanks!

A good, informal, inexpensive brunch place within walking distance of the Met is Cilantro, on Second Ave. @89th Street. Doesn't include a drink but brunch entrees are only $8-10. They have some outdoor seating in front and a garden in back, and I believe you can reserve. While it is not considered a fine restaurant, I love this place. It is solid and reliable and has the best fresh tomato salsa and homemade chips I have had anywhere. Also great froazen margaritas!

If you don't mind walking across the park (it's really an easy walk)

Calle Ocho has nice digs and ok latin american-influenced brunch food (served in small portions) with bad, but potent and unlimited, sangria. It's right across the street from the Museum of Natural History in the W. 70s. No outdoor seating.

I like the Neptune Room suggestion for much, much higher quality food (Mediterranean-ish) and only one gratis drink (sufficient for me, at least, on Sunday a.m.). Outdoor seating.

Cafe con Leche actually has a pretty tasty, very inexpensive Dominican-influenced brunch. Outdoor seating, but no free drinks.

Sorry I can't help out more with the east side.....

Thank You Both!! Great ideas! Im going to check out Calle Ocho and Neptune room and pick one of those. A walk through the park sounds wonderful.

Is the upper west side a possibility? It would be a nice walk across central park to the Met (or you could take the crosstown bus or a cab). The Neptune Room has entrees a little lower than $16, but it includes a brunch cocktail and they take reservations. It's the best value I can think of that's geographically close to the museum.

If the UES is locked in, I can recommend good food but not free drinks (not in this neighborhood unfortunately). Sarabeth's is within walking distance and has excellent food, but your price range means you will need to stick with non-alcoholic beverages to get out for under $20 pp all in (plus no reservations).

Somewhere a little farther from the Met but still nicer than many is Cafe Dalsace on 88th and 2nd. The entrees are in the $10-14ish range iirc, and it's much easier to get in on no notice than Sarabeth's. They might take reservations, but you should check.

If you're that much more concerned with price over atmosphere, there's always EJ's. The drinks are free but they're cheap.

What day of the week? In that area, getting free drinks is pretty unlikely. Do you have a price range in mind? I live in the area and will be happy to make some suggestions.

It's brunch, so I guessed Saturday or Sunday -- though there have been requests on this board for brunch during the week.

Thanks. There are some places I have in mind that are open on Saturday but not Sunday, which is why I asked.

It will be on Sunay probably around 12:30.

I guess I should explain a little more. I have friends coming from Western NY who like good food but are not used to the big city prices.

The men are going to the Mets game and the ladies are going to the MET and brunch. I have a reservation right now at Blue Water Grill (since that's near where I live) but I think it may be a little pricey for them. Most of the brunch items are $16 and up. So now I;m rethinking to go some where uptown instead.

I should have said this first- sorry. Cafe Boulud is wonderful RGR but out of our price range Any other suggesstions would be great- thanks!

Presuming you mean the Met Museum, you might consider Sunday brunch at Cafe Boulud, on 76th St., b/t 5th & Madison. Delicious food and polished service. No free drinks, but there is sidewalk seating on a fairly quiet street. Casual attire appropriate.

The Central Park Boathouse is another option. I've not been there for brunch, but the lunches we've had have been very good. No free drinks. The main dining area, while semi-protected, is entirely open to the gorgeous lake view.

Both restaurants accept reservations. In fact, I'd say reserving is a must, especially for the Boathouse.

I called a few weeks ago and the Boathouse told me that they do not take reservations for brunch.

Thanks for that info. I wouldn't have suspected because they do take reservations for lunch.
