How good is it? Are they popular? Unique? Any thoughts?

They have an office in Costa Mesa and are selling some of their products in Southern California grocery stores. They are suppose to open a restaurant in Southern California but I don't know where nor when. I was hoping that it had already opened.

In the meantime, you can do it yourself at home.

I've eaten in the one's in South Africa plenty of times (hubby is from there) and I LOVED their chicken and their peri-peri livers (the last one might be too exotic for some). I can't wait until they open here it will be SO awesome. I'll be driving down from SF for that one.

As the original post is now almost 7 years old, is there any indication that Nando's ever actually *will* open any restaurants here? There was one a few blocks from me when I lived in London ('05-'08) and it was actually pretty good, especially for a chain restaurant in London. Not the highest standard, I know, but still better than any other big chicken chain I've tried.

Nando's is also (in)famous for the, ahem, most funny/offensive ad you'll undoubtedly never see on TV anywhere but South Africa:

Unfortunately, according to their website the only branch Stateside is in D.C... Commercial's hysterical, though...
