Shawarma in southern Nassau?

Hello. We just moved here from Florida.

Anybody know of any good Shawarma in south Nassau, preferably near Valley Stream, Hewlett, Hempstead, Rockville Center area. I would also consider traveling to Queens.

I prefer shawarma wrapped in a lavoshe to the pita kind. Any recommendations are appreciated. Thanks.

  1. I'm really not sure if they have what you're looking for, but you could try Ayhan's Shish-ke-bab in either Rockville Centre or Baldwin. They have a variety of Mediterranean, Turkish and Greek dishes.

Ayhan's has gyro, not what one would consider shwarma.
I'm fairly certain that there is, at least the chicken or turkey kind, in the 5 towns. Not sure on quality.
I've had (excellent) lavosh-wrapped shwarma at one of the arab places on Steinway St in Astoria (about a half-hour drive.

    2. There was a place in Roslyn, down the street from Roslyn HS, I don't know if it's still there.

It's Hummus World in Roslyn, which is not in southern Nassau, of course, but has the best Israeli style shawarma and falafel you'll find around here. They also make a mean babaganoush and a chicken soup that will cure all diseases. Glatt kosher, so forget Friday nights, Saturdays and Jewish holidays. Very small, No ambiance. Very highly recommended.

      2. Fellow Chowhound Scott R has posted about Ephesus a Turkish place in Massapequa Park, it is on my soon to eat at list. I noticed they have a doner/gyro kebab sandwich on the menu.
