Waterfront dining

Are there any cool low key places to eat on the water? I am not thinking river cafe. Something more relaxed.

I know this is the Outer Boroughs board (and I do live in Brooklyn!) but I would recommend the Liberty View Chinese Restaurant in Battery Park City. They have a large, reasonably priced menu with outdoor seating right on the Hudson River Promenade.

You can eat from the takeout cafe from Fairway in Red Hook and sit looking at the New York City harbor. I think it is pretty cool and certainly casual. In fact, between 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm (when they stop serving) , the prepared sandwiches (as opposed to something then prepared like the lobster roll) are 2 for 1 specials. You can pretty much buy anything in the store and sit outside.

There is an outdoor place in DUMBO on adjacent to where the water taxi picks-up/drops-off. They sell chips and salsa, hot dogs, burgers etc. I think there is also Thai selection. Beer is available too. A bunch of picnic tables are set up, and the waterfalls are close by too. Decent. Good location/views especially round sunset too.

There is a new place in LIC about to open (probably next week), called Shi. They will have a beautiful waterfront dining area with amazing views of the city. Skip Riverview in LIC, it's terrible.

what about brighton beach?

This is supercasual but great views...Water Taxi Beach in LIC. You can google it and check out somep pics. Basically a great place to have some drinks and the food they do have...burgers, hot dogs are good quality. Right across from midtown so great setting.
