The Sultan's Tent

I'm not usually in the neighbourhood of The Sultan's Tent, but I went past last weekend and the people I was with [visitors to Toronto] were curious about it. I have never been, but I do enjoy this type of cuisine, but I've never had it in Toronto. So now I'm curious - is The Sultan's Tent any good? Are there better locations in Toronto for this type of food? It seems suspiciously touristy.

Thanks! It's nice to be right sometimes...

So any suggestions as to where I could get some good Moroccan food in Toronto? I had it for the first time in France and I loved it.

Bajoudi Cafe. A lot of the food come on small appetizer plates so you can order quite a few and sample lots of morrocan dishes

Sadly, Boujadi closed last year. There are no good Moroccan restaurants in the city left.

Sorry, perhaps I was a bit too sweeping in my post. :)

What I should have said is that Boujadi was the only purely Moroccan restaurant in the city that I had personally experienced and enjoyed. On the list you link to, Sultan's Tent is a bad tourist trap. Foundation Room is best for cocktails only. Avant Gout is really French with a Moroccan influence. I'm not familiar with the others, but other than Lakasbah, they seem to be more generally Middle Eastern than Moroccan.

              Hope that helps!

          Avant Gout

Madeline's (sort of French Moroccan fusion

I ofund 93 Harbord to be a nice experience. Top notch friendly service, nice decor and the food was quite tasty...I had a duck breast with a cherry reduction...very nice.

Agree with 93 Harbord excellent service and great food. I had the lamb tagine and it was amazing. It's a very nice room and lovely kind service.

        3. I tried it once a while back, Food was dry, overcooked and in some cases extremely salty. Never again!

          1. I went once. The maftoul and the tea were spectacular. Everything else was horribly disappointing: dry and utterly boring.

Exactly my experience. A boring, awful meal, and having to watch my father bellydance on top of it... that place scarred me.
