Late Night Albuquerque

moriminamimachikko Aug 19, 2008 05:38 PM

We'll be flying into Albuquerque around 10 pm on a Saturday. What restaurants can you recommend that are open late? Our hotel is in the northern part of Albuquerque and we would like to find someplace to eat on our way there from the airport.

The Frontier should be at the top of your list.

ABQ's fonkay 24-hour joint, with a broad menu.

Maybe 10 minutes from the airport...

Frontier is the place. It is on Central, just across from UNM. Leave airport and get on Yale Blvd heading north. Go about 2 miles and make a right onto Central. It will be a few blocks down on the right. It is on the corner of Central and Cornell; make a right onto Cornell and park on street or in lots near restaurant.

They have THE best tortillas in the world and they make them fresh all the time. They are also known for their cinnamon buns, but I don't think they are anything special.

I've never tried the cinnamon buns, so I guess I haven't missed anything.

The warm green chile salsa is good dumped on everything, and I am particularly fond of the tortilla soup with shredded chicken. Along with a
green chile cheeseburger (forget their name for it) and I am in ABQ cheap eats heaven.

I have to disagree about the cinnamon buns, they are not so much cinnamon as they are buttery delights. They are drenched in butter, something I love very much :) but their breakfast burritos are something else too, plus they have this pot of chile you can smother your own burritos with. Yum, I want a burrito right now.

Another vote for Frontier, either for late-night or for an early or late breakfast. Their huevos rancheros topped with green chile are sooooo good.

I also had good food at the Chama River Brewing Co; I don' t know their hours, but since they're a brewery they're probably open late. It's north of the airport just off the freeway. Might be a good dinner option if you decide on a Frontier breakfast.

The western style hashbrowns covered with "stew" (the green chili in the big soup pot) are my favorite...cover everything with that stuff, it's amazing. I live in Austin, now, but crave the frontier daily.
