Their pricing system for me goes beyond annoying to downright intolerable. I ate there once, expecting that "buy 1, get one 1 free" meant that if I got 1 crabstick and 1 toro I could get 1 crabstick free and 1 toro free and get charged for 1 crabstick and 1 toro, NOT 2 toros.
I found this a deceptive "stick-it-to-the-customer" behavior and won't be returning under any circumstances.

I don't understand why when businesses offer a buy one get one free of equal or lesser value special, people complain when they are charged for the most expensive items. I completely understand why the more expensive items are charged and have never felt "decieved" when I was handed the check. No matter how they charge it to you, you're still getting free sushi, aren't you?

Obviously you don't understand even the example I listed above, from what you write in your own message. If I was offered the example I listed, that *would* be "buy one get one free of equal or lesser value". What you get instead is something entirely different. The math involved is simple.
No one gets "free sushi". Everyone pays for the most expensive of the items they select *and* what should be a duplicate of same. Their methodology of charging -- when directly compared to other sushi restaurants in the area -- means you pay more for less than what you get elsewhere. If you think they're only actually charging you for the 1st piece, and the 2nd piece is "free" you are economically naive.

There is no such thing as a free lunch. You're right to say that calling it "buy one get one free" even with the subline "of equal or lesser value" is deceptive, but there isn't really a better way to put it on a sign. Come on, how could a restaurant offer a special like the one you're still bitter you didn't get and keep it on a long-term, daily basis and still turn a profit? The waiter we had made it clear up front that only the less expensive items from our order would be free. No one is getting deceived. I got it, everyone I was with got it. It is still a terrific deal. I don't see how you can argue that you pay more at Sushi Love for less than what you get elsewhere. Does the price of their sushi allow them to absorb the cost of giving items to people for "free"? Sure it does. But according to me and everyone I know who has been there, their pricing system allows their customers to get more for their money, not to mention the added value- since theirs is the best quality in the Triangle.

It is basically the sister restaurant of Shiki Sushi. They are both very good -- definitely the best in the area. Their pricing system is annoying though (see http://carpedurham.wordpress.com/2008... for more details on that).
