<content>As I was picking up a bottle of Carpano Antica at Astor Wines in Manhattan, I noticed this vermouth, packaged in a tall bottle in a can...$18 (Antica is I think $27 now), so i tried it...

There was a package insert extolling the virtues of this vermouth, with a pedigree dating to 1700, all in Italian. Moscato based. I used it in a Manhattan (with Rittenhouse rye and Fee's Whiskey Barrel-aged old fashioned bitters) and in a Rosebud (recipe below), for which an outstanding vermouth is essential. This vermouth is delicious, with a pronounced woodiness, orange peel, nutty and herbal flavors. An excellent alternative to Carpano Antica, and cheaper. Unfortunately it is not packaged with a recloseable cork, so make sure you have a tight stopper to put on it because the bottle is too tall to stand up in the fridge.

Rosebud (from cocktailchronicles.com)
Rinse a chilled up glass with rosewater, discard
stir 1.5 oz good reposado tequila (1800 works fine) and 0.5 oz Carpano Antica or Martelletti vermouth with ice, strain into glass
flame a 1 x 2 inch section of orange peel over surface
float a dash of Campari into glass.
