Flemings La Jolla disappointment
I've been a big fan of Flemings in La Jolla for years, primarily for the excellent steaks and great wine selection. I've gone there many times and it's been consistently good. Tonight four of us took advantage of their prime rib special dinner available on Sunday's for $34 that included entree, salad, vegetable and dessert.
While the sides and desserts were fine, the prime rib was a huge disappointment. The beef looked nothing like the brochure, showing a thick slice of a pink colored rib roast. The meat served, in fact, was very unappetizing looking. While all four pieces were ordered medium rare (and were inside), they all seemed to have a dark surface that was explained to us as from being browned in the oven. The sizes of each portion varied widely and one portion looked to be about 6-8 ounces, not the 12 ounces promoted. I'm used to good prime rib at Red Tracton's, but this was much inferior, and a big disappointment. Considering it was an advertised special it's even a bigger letdown.
