Pollo al Carbon in San Antonio?

So you know those fantastic roast chicken places in Mexico? Where you can get roast chicken, some grilled onions, some tortillas and salsa, and that's about it? I've been in San Antonio for 5 years now and have never come across one, but I'm thinking there *has* to be a place like that in town. Does anyone know of a really good Mexican roast chicken / pollo al carbon place here in San Antonio?

Thanks Debby - I'll definitely try El Regio's and report back. I tried El Pollo Loco once, and I thought it was pretty decent for a restaurant chain.

There's actually an El Pollo Regio franchise at 2901 Fredericksburg, near the intersection with Babcock. I've checked it out, and their food is about as good as that served at my favorite Austin branch of El Regio. Better still, San Antonio residents don't have to drive all the way to San Marcos, which is closer to Austin, to enjoy ER’s famous grilled chicken, blackened onion, meaty frijoles a la charra, rice, corn tortillas, and fiery green salsa.

For those that want good chicken... El regio has two stores in San Antonio, the one in fredericksburg and another one in Military drive and pleasenton rd... great chicken, great creamy salsa.

Only place similar to that in town i can think of is El Pollo Loco on San Pedro,across from North Star Mall.I think they also have one on the south side.I just wish they'd put one in Universal City or Schertz by me.

seriously consider the drive to San Marcos - I'm in Cibolo and it's an every 2 week trip at least. The bad thing is, you won't want pollo loco anymore [I'd rather have HEB's honey jalapeno roasted chicken than pollo loco anymore....at least for the drive]

we drive to San Marcos for El Regio's - I wish I could tell you the exit, but it's just south of the river in the back of a Shell station on the west side of 35. Originally an Austin hole in the wall kind of place ...and IMO, worth the drive there to get it!
