Ernie's Tin Bar and Road Hog BBQ in Petaluma?

Driving to Fairfield from Alexander Valley Saturday morning, I cut over east at Petaluma on Hwy 116, a route I'd not taken in daylight for quite a while. Ernie's Tin Bar on the corner of 116 and Stage Gulch Road and the Road Hog BBQ truck in the parking lot were at my turn-off. I've never stopped to check them out and was hoping some 'hounds could tell us about them.

  1. I have driven by there often-- looks like a very locals place-- I have friends who hang out there-- more of a beer bar with live music- no comments on the food. Still want to try eating at the place further south on 116 that has the boat in the parking lot.

Thanks. I was in a hurry to get to Fairfield for the BBQ contest and didn't take the time to stop. I thought I'd have plenty of good 'cue to choose from at my destination . . . not so. It might be a while before I'm back there to try the truck, so hopefully another passer-by will give it a go.

Isn't that Papa's Taverna? A search here will find discussions about it, but maybe nothing recent. I've tried to like the place for along time, but I've always been disappointed by the food (others here like it more than I do). I've always been attracted by the a-bit-seedy on-the-river look. It's been nine years since I've been, so I guess it's time to try it again.

Yes that is the place.. I like the hole in the wall look, but want to go with friends:) It looks like the kind of place that someone female should go with a group of LARGE friends:)

Here's our Papas' chowdown report from 2003,

It was fun with a big group, not somewhere that I'd go for the food alone.

Although I'm not a female, I've never gotten any feeling like that in the place at all or heard from others anything like that.

Being a significantly melanin enhanced female-- my sense is that I would not necessarily draw positive attention:)
