Oops. Sent without copy by accident.
So, I have it on the best authority that the much-loved, sorely-missed Green Emporium will be re-opening in the fall. Focus: pizza, pasta, salads, wine. Same fun and gracious owners but the menu will be simple and more affordable.

That would in beautiful downtown Colrain, MA truffllehound, and it is most definitely good news for everyone in the area. Since it's the same owners I'm sure it's the same website which I've added to "Places".

For some reason the location on the map is all wrong!
4 Main Rd./ Rt.112 is on the Commons at the T-juncture with the Colrain Shelburne Rd.

BTW, One of the owners is a major neon light artist formerly located in NYC.

I think his involvement in this local project may be of interest to all :-0)

Are you certain? This would be wonderful news, but I have heard nothing about it here in Shelburne Falls. Do you have any indication of when this might be happening? I know they were trying to sell the building. Perhaps they haven't been able to find a seller and decided to put something in the space to make up for the money? Regardless, it will be quite a boon for Colrain!

Hello all- due to the excitement I sensed from some of the regulars on this board we took a drive to Colrain on Saturday night. I also couldn't resist the prospect of a true NY pizza.

We arrived early and the place was lovely but a little chilly and empty. But the room filled up quickly with a nice mix of local folks and people from othe parts of the valley (like us) and once the pizza ovens got cranking we were feeling nice and cozy.

We started with soup. The split pea had hearty chunks of flavorful ham and the lentil was warming and nicely spiced. I had a Shiraz which was served in a lovely long-stemmed glass and my SO had a coke which was served in a can with no glass. The shiraz was lovely once it warmed up but it was ice cold when it arrived. Next we tried a slice of the special pizza which is a white pizza with potato, rosemary and gorganzola. It was rich but very yummy. Great as a slice or if you are sharing with a big group. This was our first taste of the crust and we wanted more MORE!

We ordered a traditional red pizza with sausage, black olive and onion. We make pizza at home and think we do a good job but we learned a lot from this pie. The crust was so flavorful, light and crispy it could be eaten on its own. My SO commented that it tasted like bread and his description was vindicated when Tony (one of the charming, friendly owners) came over and said they did, indeed, make bread out of the dough and he has it for breakfast with butter and a cup of coffee. Yum. The topping and sauce are applied lightly and the sauce has a sweet plum tomato taste. A really nicely done pizza pie.

We finished with a slice of chocolate cake and coffee. There was a service hiccup at the end as our server's family had arrived and she was hanging out with them at the bar but overall the service was very attentive and friendly. Casual but not sloppy. There are a few things, like the paper plates and cold wine that are a little out of place but don't detract too much from the overall vibe which is warm and comforting. We made friends with our neighbors and chatted with the owners about pizza, brooklyn and the great neon art that lines the walls.

This is the kind of place you want to keep to yourself --but I also want it to last so I recommend it.

Watch for outdoor dining and italian sausages on the grill come May. They are also talking about opening 4 nights a week (instead of 3) come the spring.
