Help with Santa Clara dining, please...

An old friend will be in the area this week, and we plan to meet for dinner on Friday...He and his wife will be staying in Santa Clara, so we'd prefer something in that general vicinity...

My friend is a vegetarian, but will eat fish...no other dietary restrictions that I'm aware of...

Some place not too noisy, so that we can talk and catch up would be preferable...middle price range...

I've read about Parcel 104 here, and checked its website, but I think it might be a bit expensive [they're from non-urban Colorado, and might suffer menu-shock]...

Hoping you South Bay CH's might have some tips for us...Thanks in advance

What about Korean? There are hundreds of Korean restaurants in the Lawrence Expwy/El Camino vicinity. Can't think of one off the top of my head, but I'm sure if you do a search on this board, there are some. I think I might be going to one today or tomorrow to get naengkongguksu.

Dish Dash can be a bit noisy. or at least it has when I have been there during lunch.
I'd recommend you check out one of the Persian places if your friend is interested in something different. There are several Persian restaurants in the Santa Clara, Sunnyvale area, but you'd need to check if they have a fish option. I'd recommend Chelokababi since it's one of the nicer Persian restaurants I have been to in the area. http://www.chelokababi.com/menu.htm

How much do you want to spend? Something in-between Parcel 104 and cheap eats? Zafran and Athen Grill are good recs. Most of the fish/vegetarian places I like in Santa Clara are either noisy or cheap (Dosa Place, Kebab N Curry, Hong Kong Saigon). If you can extend your driving range, there are lots more middle-ground recs (search earlier posts); Xahn and Amber India in Mt. View come to mind, and there are tons of sushi places. Have fun!

I'm considering Dishdash in Mountain View...Any thoughts about that choice?

I had a unsatisfactory lunch there (a few small pieces of undistinguished lamb) but all my friends, as well as most CH'rs, love it.

BTW: There's a great eggplant curry at both Bombay Garden and the new Indian place kittycorner from Blockbuster at Kiely x ECR, and their dinners might be pretty good if their lunch buffet is any indication.

Dishdash is in fabulous and another place with great fish and vegetarian options, and its downtown Sunnyvale location is close to Santa Clara. Be sure to reserve a table in advance or you may be waiting a long time on Friday night. You might want to specify seating in the new room which is larger and a bit quieter than the smaller original room. The mansaf (lamb with yogurt sauce) is to die for, but most everything is excellent here.

Athena Grill for Greek and Zafran for Pakistani are my two favorite places in Santa Clara. Both have lots of vegetarian choices, should not be too noisy, and are moderately priced.
