Dim Sum on Saturdays?

Senor Popusa Aug 16, 2008 04:53 PM

I had dim sum at Ton Kiang today (Saturday) and was pleased by the lack of a wait (2 minutes) and the great dim sum (it was my second weekend in a row there).

I much preferred it to Gold Mountain and thought it better and half the price of Yank Sing. Today's meal was $20/pp. all in. I loved my meal at Hong Kong Flower Lounge last month, which was a screaming bargain.

I have been wanting to try Koi Palace in Millbrae but have been put off by the legendary wait times for a table. My friends are not likely to be up for being there by 10 am on a Sunday or for waiting an hour plus at 11:30. Are the waits significantly shorter on Saturdays?

I had only been to dim sum on Sundays, it hadn't really occurred to me as a Saturday option. Maybe Sunday dim sum in the San Gabriel Valley was such a ritual growing up in LA that I had my blinders on. If Saturdays are much easier, then I'd rather have a shorter line than go on the "right" day of the week.

Highlights today were the rice noodles with beef, the chinese broccoli, the chicken bao, and chicken in foil wrapper, esp the wonderful bao. The variety was good and the food was not at all greasy.
