Charlotte has Excellent Shrimp and fish too

  • 7

GodfatherofLunch and Mrs. G. were in the mood for some shrimp. I remembered a while back getting some beauty's at the farmers market on Kings Drive. I got in my car and took a drive over this morning hopping the "shrimp Man" (sorry dude) was there. Yeah Baby, here was there and now stocks shrimp, scallops, grouper, flounder, snapper and what ever else I forgot. All this bounty is from the Carolina Coast. Always remember local is best. I think he is there every Fri. & Sat.
I bought a lb. of shrimp and a lb. of scallops. Tonight for dinner we enjoyed a shrimp cocktail with some specie spicy cocktail sauce and scallops that I quickly seared and then deglazed the pan with a splash of Mojo Criollo, a citrus based marinade available at the Goya section of the Teeter. For the veg I steamed some turnip greens. Home Run, Restaurant Quality my friend. The secret to my success which I will share with you * Start with great ingredients, and the odds are already in your favor.

I'm actually not a fan of that particular farmers market as most if not all of the vendors are not farmers or growers, just resellers of who knows what.? I like to get stuff direct from the growers so I prefer The Regional Farmers Market on Yorkmont Road, near the airport and the new Tailgate market on Camden Road. I used to go the Matthews Farmers market when I lived near there and it is great as well. The fish at the kings road market so impressed me and is so unique that I plan to go back every Friday strictly to see him.

Do you know of any markets closer to the north end of town since I live in Huntersville?

Sorry I don't. I don't often venture to the hinterlands.

Thanks!! I forgot about Bradford. That is very close for me!

The Bradford store looks like a cool place. Littlegirltree has given some great referrals for places to find local produce. None of these places sell any fish or shrimp though. Even without the seafood might be a fun trip.
