Has anyone heard of Ketchup in Asbury Park?
I haven't been there, but I just noticed it a couple weeks ago. It is in the Empress Hotel, right next to the Paradise Club. I looked at the reviews on TripAdvisor and found it a little strange that a newly opened place has three rave reviews and all three reviewers have never posted before. If you try it, let us know what you think.
Ketchup was awful. Long story short, my husband and I went last night. The restaurant was not crowded at all and the service was so bad, it crossed my mind that I might be on "Totally Hidden Video". The couple seated next to us joked that it took so long for their food to arrive, they thought the chef might be out in the hotel pool doing laps instead of cooking.
The atmosphere/decor is nice, sort of an upscale pub, adjacent to the pool, but from the moment we entered, we were ignored, ignored and ignored. We had to seat ourselves after standing at the door over 5 minutes and my husband had to beg 2 waitresses for someone to finally take our order.
20 minutes after ordering, I asked our waitress if she thought our food might be arriving this week and her response was, "I hope so." At first I thought she was joking. She wasn't. That was her honest, ridiculous response.
My husband and I are both in the food industry. We know and understand how difficult it is to make a restaurant run smoothly and we are very sympathetic when things get bumpy. But the bottom line is that it's possibly the worst service I have ever had in any restaurant in my life.
We were at Ketchup for a total of 45 minutes, barely acknowledged by several staffers, without ever being served any food, so we finally left. Shame on the management of this place.
PS The rest rooms are outside, past the pool, back inside the hotel and down a hallway. THAT will be fun in the winter. What were they thinking?
Service was terrible; I went with my GF, maybe early September-ish. She had a completely weird lobster roll--it wasn't bad, but it wasn't good; and I had an OK crabcake. Maybe it was an OK crabcake because I had 3 rum & cokes as well. Certainly wasn't worth the $75 it cost--for lunch.
