It's been a while since i've lived on the peninsula (in Oakland now) and am looking to make rsvps for dinner tonite for 4 around 6pm.

What would be your choices - nothing too fussy, but good food and some atmosphere. Open to most food types (excluding Chinese).

thanks!

Excluding Chinese does that include all Asian influenced? Red Lantern is good in RWC but it's Asian influenced.

Here are a few ideas...I'm sure they are not the absolute best spots, but I'm taking my cue from the "not too fussy" and "atmosphere" hopes in your post

*Sushi Sam's in downtown San Mateo
*Luceti's on 25th Avenue in San Mateo
        *The Van's in Belmont
        *Marvin Gardens in San Carlos
*there seem to be a bunch of worthwhile spots in downtown San Carlos, and there was a humongus thread about it that you could find with the search function
*Old Port Lobster Shack in Redwood City (I think that's the name, on Veteran's Blvd)
*seems like I have read that there are a plethora of good to great Mexican places in RWC, but no names spring to mind

Hope you find a good spot!
