Winston Salem - Sunday brunch?

Any suggestions of places to have brunch on Sunday around W-S? We'll be coming from the northside of town (52 - Sara Lee soccer fields) but have to drive back to Asheville so would like to stay on that route (40/University Parkway/52 or even downtown). Should be kid friendly and not pricey.

Some new places are opening for Sunday Brunch in Winston Salem. Mary's....I'd avoid unless you enjoy 30+ minutes of line waiting for B level food (at best).

Mary's Of Course is excellent for the atmosphere, but in my opinion the food is over-rated. They serve canned fruit, and the quality of the eggs benedict is unpredictable to say the least. For the type of place it is, they really ought to work on their food, but they get away with the mediocrity because they're so popular and arty. For a really delicious sunday brunch, with high quality ingredients and care, head to 6th and Vine, off Trade Street. Christopher's also has a lovely Sunday Brunch which is a bit more upscale. I haven't tried The Cotton Mill's brunch (Winston's newest high end Southern Comfortfood resto, across the street from Mary's), but their dinners are great, if a bit over-the-top (they try too hard), so I'm guessing their brunches are on par with Christopher's.

If you're from Asheville, you'll probably be a little disappointed with Mary's- it's Winston-Salem trying to bring a bit of the Asheville vibe down from the Mountains but without enough attention to the food (or at least haphazard attention). It does have a nice ambience though, and is usually packed full of families and NCSA art students and profs from Wake and NCSA every weekend.

Just so you know, Cotton Mill closed a couple of weeks ago. I think the location did them in.

Wouldn't exactly think of Christopher's or 6th and Vine as "not too pricey" nor, IMHO very kid friendly. That said, while every restaurant has their good points, there's a little more to brunch than fruit (I agree with the canned fruit comment...that's why I stay away from it) and eggs benedict (you may have caught it on a bad day), there's more to brunch than this. I think their stone ground grits are the best in town and their custom built omelets let customers take advantage of their own preferences. I guess that's what's great about food....there's always something for everybody.

Leah, not certain how you classify pricey but if you're open to going downtown, the best brunch place by far is Mary's Of Course. They serve brunch on Sundays from 10:00 until 2:30 or so. Though not kid friendly like, say, a McDonalds or a Pizza Hut would be they accomodate families with small children no problem
