Madison, Cafe Continental

mike_d Aug 14, 2008 03:09 PM

I was just interested in other folks' opinions on this place. I never saw it mentioned on the board, and we gave it a try for a couple different reasons. My wife only had a salad, not being too hungry, but I double pork chop I had was pretty good. As close as you could get to undercooked, without being so. Pretty impressive timing for pork. The rest of the plate was okay.

Anyone eaten the steaks, how's the pasta, good/bad/indifferent experiences?

I was just surprised that it seemed as good as it was, and not often mentioned, or at all mentioned.

My family likes it. In particular we enjoy brunch there. The wait staff is quite good with kids, despite the lack of high chairs there.

The spiedini is pretty good. You're right, Cafe Continental doesn't get much press...

Used to be a favorite of ours, but the prices have gone way up. They're in L'etoile territory now.

Cafe Continental is one of the great little restaurants that make Madison a wonderful restaurant town. Their steaks are very good, especially the top sirloin ( ! ) Brunch is very nice, the service is friendly and attentive. Prices are very reasonable for such high quality.(PS: Their "sister" restaurant, The Continental in Fitchburg is a larger, and just as great version of the King Street location.)
