Shattered Glass on GE Monogram MV
Last night the jfood were casually watching the Olympics and they heard a "BANG". They looked around and saw nothing fell off the counter and thought little jfood dropped something upstairs.
Fast forward to this morning. Jfood passes the MV and notices some glass shards on the floor. He looks at the front of the MV and the outside glass is shattered and spider-webbed. WTF.
Mrs jfood looks on line and finds this is not unusual, jfood schedules a service call to replace. As it turns out this is not an unusual event. It appears that the spring that shuts the door sometimes disengages and snaps against the front glass and poof. The jfoods got luck with it shattering and not exploding.
Wanted to give heads up to fellow hounds.

It's very odd that I see this, because the very same thing happened to me this weekend. Hubby was making bread, needed more steam so added some more boiling water to his steam bath. Must have dripped some on the door, and whole inner glass plate shattered.
In my mind I was thinking, there goes about $1,500 by the time all is said and done, but we managed to source the part on line, received it the next day and install it ourselves. We found instructions on how to do this via internet search. Total cost about $62.00.

Isn't the internet a wonderful thing? We have saved a TON of money in the last few years because of internet resources. Schematics to help you figure out what part you need, online parts suppliers and repair instructions - all at your finger tips. It's a life saver for us. :)

Same thing here, although I think I splashed water on mine while making crab legs. We ordered the part and installed it ourselves but it cost about $90.00 for the glass. After we recieved the glass, DH got angry and realized we could have just gone to the local glass company and ordered the correct size for a lot cheaper. But I am a little more careful when I am using a water bath in the oven.
