THE BEST NY STYLE PIZZA-Union Square area

I will be in NYC for Labor Day weekend. Staying in the Union Square area. Can anyone suggest a VERY TASTY pizza place? Bonus if it has a cool atmosphere & serves drinks!

Thanks!

Good NY style pizza and cool atmosphere are usually mutually exclusive. NY style pizza generally refers to slice joints. Around Union Sq. area, Artichoke on 14th btwn 1st and 2nd is probably the best. I've never had the artichoke slice but the square is top notch and the regular slice ranges from great to okay. Occassionally the crust is too hard.

Luzzo's makes a good coal oven pizza and has a decent atmosphere but isnt really NY style. If you go there, make sure to ask for it well done, they have a tendency to pull the pizzas out a little early. Otto Pizzeria is mario batalis pizza place on 8th St. and 5th ave, again, not really a NY style pizza but good none the less and they have a great list of salumis and a fantastic wine list.

Is it NY "style" if you're eating it in NY?

Artichoke on 14th/1st has been getting raves - I haven't made it yet.

Maybe for your "atmoshphere" and drinks you can try Patsys on University around 12th St.

either you love artichoke or you dont. I would certainly tell everyone to try it at least once (try the artichoke/spinach slice).

I dont know about NY style, but it's awful delicious at Luzzo's. 1st avenue at around 11th. Try the "Martha" with Robbiola cheese and truffle oil. Or there is one with arugula and prosciutto. Coal oven. Crispy crust. It gets busy. And you can get drinks there...
