Looking for good restaurant around DC Improv

The husband and I have a "date night" without the youngin's on Saturday night. We have tickets for a 10:30 show at the DC improv and would like to have a nice dinner before, maybe around 8:00 or so in that area. We're driving into the city so preferably something in walking distance of the Improv (11th & Connecticut). We're adventurous eaters, love to try new things but are happy with old reliables, would like something not too trendy and noisy, would like to eat sitting down, nothing too "divey".... etc. Any suggestions?

Well, we loved the menu at Firefly but they only have a very early and very late resrvations available so we're going to check out the menus for Cafe Soleil, Sesto Senso, and Tabard Inn this evening to make another choice. Equinox looks a little pricey for what we're going for.... thanks!

I hear really good things about Teatro Goldoni with the new chef. Haven´t been but I really trust my sources

I assume you mean around Conn. and L. How nice are you looking for? Equinox wouldn't be a far walk (and Bombay Club is across the street from Equinox). Or you could walk up to Dupont.

I second and third and fourth Tabard Inn! Bombay Club is also a great choice, but I'd definitely prefer Tabard's atmosphere for date night. Cafe Soleil is also a nice spot; pretty much the same distance from Improv as Bombay and Equinox, just one block closer.

Although this sounds silly, one thing to keep in mind is that there's massive construction right south of the Improv where Connecticut and K intersect. You'd have to walk through it to get to Bombay, Equinox and Cafe Soleil. Could be an issue if you're wearing heels. At the very least, it's a nuisance.

Tabard Inn and Firefly would be just a few blocks away - is that close enough? A bit closer would be Sesto Senso, which may not be the most unique Italian restaurant in DC, but is quaint and romantic.

Tabard Inn is a great suggestion...make sure to request a table in their lovely courtyard when you make a reservation.

If you are ok with something more pricey, I would highly recommend Equinox. The food is seasonal and delicious and the tables are well-spaced out so you don't have to worry about hearing another person's conversation/noise.
