San Rafael - Gaspare's Pizzeria Ristorante and Bar?
Yep ... that Gaspare's Pizza. A second location opened April 2007 near the the Civic Center.
It is run by Gaspare's son, Daniel and his wife. The menu seems to be the same. This location has a full bar with two flat screen tv's. There's a happy hour from 4-5. There's an outdoor patio with fountain ... and ... gasp ... a parking lot (parking ain't easy at the SF Gaspare's)
However, the fake grapes with lights decorate the place to keep it rooted.
Or so I read elsewhere on the web. Anyone been there?

Been twice. First time, it was the perfect post-Jersey Boys venue for the 8 or 9 of us -- good if not stellar food, but the atmosphere was great. Second time was another celebration for six -- slow service but we just scarfed whatever come out to the table. Again, good pizzas and pastas, festive atmosphere among other big parties/families.
We were there just after they first opened. It was disappointing. Despite asking for an extra crispy crust, it was limp. A far cry from Pizzeria Picco or Gioia.
To be fair, they had just moved into the place. They may have been working out the kinks with the pizza oven or with new help.
Oh, no. This is supposed to be NOTHING like Picco or Gioia. This is old-school stuff and should be evaluated in that context. While I realizes that Gioia is supposed to be NY-style pizza, it still has California sensibilities. Both are just in a different class and if you compare Gaspares with, them, you won't be happy.
With the SF location, I was more into the vibe than the pizza ... which was fine. However, I went with someone whose family ate there for generations and was blissful because nothing had changed ... except the old waitresses with beehive hairdos.
However, givin the Marin location, it might be a nice to get a shot of old-school every now and then.
