Truffle Oil in Berkshire County?

visink Aug 13, 2008 09:21 AM

Does anyone know where I can buy some good truffle oil in Berkshire County and what to look for when buying it? Thanks.

Don't know the Berkshires, but I do know that is generally sold as 'truffle oil' is a synthetic flavoring (2,4-dithiapentane) mixed with olive oil; best kept away from fine food.

A company in my home state sells product consisting of olive oil and fresh black truffle shavings:

Am not sure about their truffle oils, but they had a wonderful truffle salt. Not quite in Berkshires, but as we not, not much is sometimes. Cook Shop Here in Northampton (check out their website)-- used to be the Coffee Connection

Thanks for the tips, Dual and mjoyous. I didn't realize that most truffle oil was made with flavoring. Will check out the site and will also check out Cook Shop in Noho. I am there often and need to trek to get some yarn so I will kill two birds with one stone!

I believe you're in the Northern Berkshires, visink?
You might want to check with The Store at Five Corners if you haven't already.
For the area, they carry a pretty extensive line of gourmet items.

Good thinking. I went to Green River Farms in search of it, and Wild Oats and 5 corners didn't even dawn on me. Thanks, Harp!
