Random Pricing at Scoops

choctastic Aug 13, 2008 07:29 AM

I noticed random pricing, or maybe they just don't like me. I tried to get a refill yesterday and the younger Asian guy looks at me and charges me extra. I looked at the price on the board and he shrugged and said "You know why". I had no idea what he was talking about I paid the extra money since I didn't want to argue. What is the deal with this place?

    Maybe you should've asked him?

I probably should have. I had no idea what he was talking about. I think he was just being an ass.

      "The deal at this place"?

I'm astonished that anyone would say anything about any change in pricing at Scoops short of the owner's looking at the board, (and comparing the prices at, say, even Baskin Robbins) and shrieking "What the hell was I thinking?!! I must have been out of my mind!! I can't make any money at that price!!!" and immediately doubling all the posted prices!

Well, he did double the posted price, which is why I asked. It wasn't the owner, it was one of the younger kids. I guess he just didn't like me or something. He was also questioning my ability to eat the ice cream. I'm really small but I eat a lot and he said I would never finish it and tried to force me to get a smaller size.

I've never seen pricing for a "refill" on ice cream nor have I ever seen anyone ask for a refill of ice cream. Maybe the employee was thrown by you asking for a refill.

There is even a sign or it might be written on the menu that refills cost $x amount. That guy was RUDE! Sorry you had a bad experience.

Agreed. Scoops is so super cheap and free sprinkles to boot.

Shhh.. Don't tell, but I'd be happy to pay TRIPLE what they charge for some ice cream flavors at Scoops.

Yeah me too. Im over it. I just thought the guy was a jerk for forcing me to get a smaller cup because he didn't think I could finish and then charging me more for a refill because I did.

I hate rude people almost as much as those who litter. Lets go kick his bicycle riding vegan ice cream eating ass -- it will be the first organized chow-attack.

'Course maybe that's how ice cream hipsters flirt... with financially punitive teasing.

I was at Pazzo Gelato last night and the cashew macadamia nut was pretty good.

Well, unfortunatley I'm a bicycle riding vegan so it would be like kicking...myself.

Actually am going to Il Cono today. However, I'm down wit Pazzo Gelato!

hehe. financially punitive teasing. that was maybe the most insightful post on Scoops yet.

Maybe we're seeing the beginnings of artistic ice-cream megalomania, ala Nozawa and the Soup-Nazi: "OK! Here! More caramel-bacon ice cream for YOU! You over there, only little tiny scoop of lemon-purple basil sorbet for YOU! . . and no refill! . . . and YOU, you philistine! ! NO vegan chocolate-pistachio for YOU!"

Please Sir, I want some more brown bread...

'What!' said the master at length, in a faint voice.

'Please, sir,' replied Oliver, 'I want some more brown bread.'

The master aimed a blow at Oliver's head with the ladle; pinioned him in his arm; and shrieked aloud for Mr Bumble.

                            LOL

Here's the thing, it wasn't the master. It was one of his uppity apprentices...

I thought about it and what makes me mad is that someone questioned my eating abilities. I've paid a LOT more for gelato at a lot of places so the prices are frankly not an issue with me. It was more the reasoning behind it.

choc.. enough already.. just talk about the ice cream... I was there once.. loved it and I would go back and try the brown bread next and any other flavor.. great spot very cool with the flavor combos..

Hey ease off... The last time I was there the hipster server was rude too. I just attributed it to people asking for to many trial tastes. I say just go with your gut and deal with what you get.

Brown bread is always available at Scoops. It's one of their staples. Make sure you contribute to the flavor suggestion board when you go. I'm sure Tai will be making my suggestion: uni-foie gras combo ice cream anyday now....

I requested that for next Thanksgiving all the flavors should be appropriate; mashed potato and cranberry, rosemary stuffing, apple pie with brandy, etc

Hey great idea! Let's just have Tai fabricate a turkey/mashed potato/cranberry/stuffing/pumpkin pie ice cream and call it a night!

Sorry your experience was bad. Every time I go, I order two flavors and Tai charges me the small/one flavor price. It is a very generous serving. And yes, the gelato is incredible. Does the refill have to be the same flavor?

There's no gelato at Scoops, just ice cream!

...Unless there's a secret gelato room in the back that I'm not aware of.....?

i think the price for a refill is clearly marked as $1.75. I mean, it's not like you expected it to be free right? Prices have gone up again, but that's because milk has gone up. If you're mad about that one, how about getting mad at the government for subsidizing corn for so long and the prices of that skyrocketing with the increase of ethanol fuel. And surprise surprise, corn feeds cows. simple economics. it's still a very reasonable $2.75 for two scoops of fresh ice cream. I can't think of another place that makes all (or almost all) of their ice cream fresh daily. btw, I know that 'younger' asian guy, I'll tell him to be a little nicer next time :) he's usually very friendly.
