Westfield BBQ (location former Gauchos)

Has anyone been to the Westfield BBQ restaurant which is in the location where Gauchos used to be; South Avenue in Westfield, NJ?

This location is one of those black holes where restaurant after restaurant fails, yet someone else is always willing to give it another shot. Good luck to the current owner...

That being said what would you recommend for casual dining in the area?

I don't live in Westfield anymore, so I shouldn't say.... OK, Marino's in Cranford. Also Garlic Rose in Cranford, a little fancyier, but casual. How far are we talking when we say "area?" Because that Indian place in Berkeley Heights, the name of which escapes me but its the only one there, is good. And then there's Summit, with Brix and Huntley Tavern(e).

Why not try a search? There are plenty of regulars here who are better aquainted with the area, and they have posted a bunch.

Clark BBQ on Raritan Road between Walnut Ave and GSP--not far from Westfield. Very casual Portuguese barbeque. Quality varies--can be excellent at times, OK other times (but I've never had a really bad experience there) . Very reasonable.

Speaking of Portuguese, in the area we noticed a Brazilian BBQ place on 22 West not far from the Home Depot in Kenilworth - is it any good or are we better off going Ironbound?

I think the place you are referring to is Rio 22 (westbound lane). I have heard from people that went there that you are just better off going to the Ironbound. I have not personally been there, but I trust the judgment of these people

My family and I recently had food from Westfield BBQ. We ordered "The Westfielder" which consisted of ribs, chicken, pork chop, and sausage. It also came with yellow rice and french fries. The food was a major disappointment. It had very litle flavor and the pork chop was almost dried-out. The best thing was the french fries. Save your money and don't waste it at this place.
