I was recently given a cordless immersion blender (Breville) as a gift and am trying to decide whether or not to keep it. Does it hold a charge? Does it have enough power? I already have a plug-in one and don't know if I should switch.

I'd love to hear from anyone with any experience with one.

Thanks.

Dagwood I've not used a cordless immersion blender but experience with other cordless appliances makes me shy away from them. How easy is it to replace the battery and will they still make it when you need it is a big question. After a couple of years most do not seem to hold a charge. A place like Batteries Plus may be able to custom make a rechargeable battery pack but do you really want the headache?

nope. sure don't. You've convinced me. I know my friend spent a lot of $$ on it (she bought it at Williams Sonoma, which I never shop at except their clearance rack) and I didn't want to keep it if it wasn't worth it.

Thanks for the advice!

I have Breville panini grill that is well made, so I suspect the quality of this blender is also good.

As for battery charging, think about how often and long you use the plug-in one. I think my Smartstick has a recommended run time of something like 30 seconds (to avoid overheating).

Has the cord of the plug-in one ever gotten in the way, or have you ever wished you use it someplace where a plug wasn't handy? On the other hand, do you have place to store the rechargeable with its charger connected?

I use my corded Cuisinart quite a bit and feel no need for a cordless. Breville is, from my experience, an excellent brand. We have had their electric tea kettle for about two years and recently got their toaster.... it's the best one I've ever had.
