Montreal over Labor Day weekend

Hey. I'll be in Montreal for a few days with my boyfriend. It's my first time there and I'm looking for a few unique, non-touristy places to dine at. I've already planned on going to Jean-Talon Market to pick up something for lunch as well as a poutine place. Can anyone recommend a nice French restaurant that's moderately priced....entrees around $20? I'm willing to go a bit higher if the place is extraordinary. Also any stand-out Italian places in Montreal? Or Indian? I'm willing to give any type of cuisine a try but I'm on a budget.

  1. Check the threads here - there have been many recent recommendations and discussions on French, Italian, and Indian restaurants. Poutine is either La Banquise (open 24/7, nothing fancy but pretty good) or Au Pied de Cochon for the foie gras version of it (but truly in a league of its own). Keep in mind that many places may be closed Sunday and Monday that weekend, so you should check with them in advance if there's anyplace you really want to try.
