Pirates Cove - Belford - This Year

Has anyone been here this year, I realize this is a working, fishing site, thus, I expect freshness and knowledge. Good posts from last summer. I recently moved down the street from here and I was just wondering.........

  1. I was there last weekend and we go every summer---so relaxing and we think the food is very good. Had the mahi mahi special. The rest of our party had the jumbo shrimp, scallops and the flounder and all enjoyed. We had clams and mussels appetizer to start and fried calamari. We had coffee and two desserts. The other couple had never been there before and they were extrememly pleased with our choice of restaurant and said they would definitely return. I think it came to about $80 per couple. The service was a little iffy at first (the wait staff are mostly young kids), but once we expressed our concern, they hopped around and fawned over us almost too much to the other extreme. They were out to please and quickly rectified the service issue. We have been there a few other times this summer and last summer and the service was never an issue. They might have been short staffed this one night, but as I said they quickly made amends.

    1. I love going to Pirates Cove patio. We took visiting family for lunch in June. My husband and our guests loved the seafood -- scallops, clams, and something with crabmeat stuffing. All the food was presented nicely and the waiter was very nice.

One big problem... Since I can't eat seafood, I ordered a salad with grilled chicken. The chicken was fine, but the salad had a few slimy rotten leaves. The slimy salad occurs at so many restaurants! I can list a mere handful of places where I will eat a salad without scrutinizing it first. Rotten salad bits is one of my all time peeves.

Is this place still open? Their website is down...

I heard several weeks ago they closed down. Not sure though.

I can't believe i'm reading this. That's disgusting.I am not a regular salad eater, but I expect any greens (as a sandwich filler or garnish) to be at peak freshness or not be served.I would never go back.
I had lunch there a couple of years back and was optomistic. It was forgetable (like Moby's ) and I never returned.I had a good friend report the same this year.

Phone also says...."temporarily disconnected". Maybe they are only opening in the summer. Can't imagine that they would do much winter business. Either that, or they are gone, which would be a shame.

We went there in October and they were closed on a Friday night. Called the next day and the phone wasn't answered. I hope they open for the summer. We did go in November of '07 on a Saturday night and were the only patrons in the restaurant.

They're gone, and good riddance. What a horrific place this was. I have so much respect for the reviewers on this board and I usually agree with the assessments made - both good and bad. This one has always been an anomoly. The only thing I can make of it is that Pirate's Cove was given a pass due to its relatively low price points. The place is closed and for sale.

        3. I think this reopened. My wife was told to check out the fish market there and she noticed the restaurant was open. Was hoping to get some recent perspective on this place. Maybe I'll take one for the team and investigate this weekend and report back.

Tried to contact them but was unable to find a listed number.

My wife bought fish from their fish market and it was the best and freshest calamari and red snapper I've had since moving here in 2004. We may try eating there today. Will keep you posted

Odd. I called them at (732) 787-6581 and got their answering machine, which said to call back during regular business hours. According to the rest of the message, 2:30 on a Saturday afternoon _is_ during regular business hours. Also noticed the website is down.
