L'Original

In our last visit to montreal, we noticed a new (to us) restaurant called L'Original in Old Montreal off of Rue Notre Dame near St. Sulpice...i've heard it's owned by the same people who run Garde Manger. Has anyone been to the restaurant? Any feedback?
Thanks.

    1. The name is L'Orignal (French for moose) not L'Original. It is owned by former part owners of Garde Manger but there is no connection between the two.

A friend of mine has been there twice already and is raving about it; it's on my short list of places to try very soon, I'll report back for sure. It's on St Alexis near Notre Dame,

We had dinner at l'Orignal last night; the food was quite amazing, there were 4 of us; I had the bison primerib,
which I loved, my first time with that meat, one person ordered 2 apps, one of them being the trio of mini lamb burgers, we shared another order of those, dh had fish, other person had bavette frites; we also ordered 4 different desserts , mine was the "smores de la maison" which was an upscale version of smores, very good; wine list seemed reasonable and varied, only 2 out of 4 at our table ordered one glass so I cannot comment on wine more than that, I glanced at it briefly.

Service was prompt and courteous, aside from an icy silent greeting when we walked in and were handed hangers by this stern looking tall guy in a plaid jacket, who was in a rush to return to his conversation at the bar. I have no clue who he was, owner, manager? definitely not a people person.
the bill was around $280 for 4 ; keep in mind that only 2 glasses of wine were had, although my bison primerib was 50$ , and the bavette frites was $20, the other mains were in between those prices.

The food and service have gone down hill. Overcooked everything. This is a great place to go for a drink or light snack, but I will never go for dinner again and it appears that most people feel the same way - it's dead. Too bad cause it was great when it opened. Try Garde Manger, Le Local, Liverpool, Joe Beef if you want a similar vibe but with real service and excellent food rather than the mediocre slop L'Original is serving up.

I was there last weekend and the place was packed. All four of us thoroughly enjoyed our meals and had very good service. While the food might be good at Le Local, it has some of the worst service on the island!

100% percent agree with eat2much, I love the place! My girlfriend and I eat there all the time and have never been disappointed.

I see in Anthony Benda's(Cafe Myriade) blog, in a recent posting, saying of having decent food & terrible service at Le Local.
