Looking for memorable Italian

A friend is going to New York and is looking for a great Italian restaurant. Neighbourhood is not an issue. Price point is $300 for 4 all in. Babbo is not an option as they are going this week. Interesting wine list is a must.

Convivio is great but $300 will not make it there. Pepolino has seriously good food and excellent service and is in the specified price range.

I've liked Avoce. But I remember hearing something about the chef leaving, and haven't been back since the change.

Chef Andrew Carmellini left A Voce in June. I have not heard any announcement about his replacement. We had dinner there once shortly after it opened. Despite liking the food, we have not gone back because of the hideously high noise level.

We had a phenomenal meal at Alto. There's not enough space on these boards to describe it in detail but simply put, chef Michael White cooks with simplicity while getting the most flavor out of every ingredient used. The polenta and duck breast for two were easily the most well prepared dishes we've had this year.

They also have a great wine list.

My husband still raves about the duck, and it's been almost a year since we went. I'm not sure that $300 for four people would cover the tab, though.

the ravioli with the ricotta and poached egg; out of this world. His other restaurant, Convivio is a winner also.
