TN: 2004 Roederer Estate Pinot Noir, Estate Bottled (Anderson Valley AVA, California)

As with many sparkling wine producers in California, Roederer Estate produces still wines (table wines) that are sold only at the winery. Lynn and I picked up a bottle of this wine a couple of years ago . . .

2004 Roederer Estate Pinot Noir, Estate Bottled (Anderson Valley AVA, California): Bright ruby-garnet in color, clean and brilliant to the eye; the bouquet captures Anderson Valley Pinot beautifully, with cherry fruit, rose petals, forest floor, light earth and wood spice; on the palate, the wien is satin-smooth, moderately fleshy, with generous, ripe (but not overripe) fruit, light oak, and hints of spice, vanilla, saddle leather, and more; well-balanced, smooth and elegant, with no trace of heat or alcohol (despite the label indicating 14.4% abv); the finish is long, lingering, and absolutely delicious. Excellent!

Cheers,
Jason

    1. Yes! I bought a bottle of this last summer, when visiting. I loved it, for all the reasons you so eloquently list. I made a mental note recently to mail order some, if I don't get up there soon.

        1. Anderson Valley and Mendocino County pinots have a freshness about them (plus all the attributes you laid out) that is very, very attractive....I don't have a feel for how well these wines last , but at our age , why do we care .......

            1. Jason - thx for this note as I had no idea Roederer made any still wines.

                1. Jason: their web page only lists the '05 for sale (at a very fair price of $24/btl); were you able to try any of the '05?

Sorry for the delayed reply; I was out of town for a few days.

Keep in mind, I bought the 2004 a couple of years ago; the 2005 was not let released at that time, so -- no, I haven't had it. But it's a good vintage in that region, and I will probably order some just based on having had the '04 . . .

                          thanks!
