someplace like little owl, only in the ev, les or chelsea

Looking for a small, cozy, delicious, special, and casual spot like Little Owl, but in the East Village, LES, or Chelsea for a quiet birthday dinner for two. Would prefer either italian, upscale american or french...small plates okay too.

I say Little Owl because I really like the intimate feel and size of the place, and the food is special and delicious. Would be great if the place was new-ish, but not necessary. Price is no object b/c it's a birthday. Other places we like with a similar feel: Marlow and Sons and DOC wine bar in Williamsburg, Barbone, The New French.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Back Forty might fit the bill, though you would want to avoid the communal tables. It's rustic American cuisine and right by Barbone...

Seymour Burton might have been perfect, but I don't think they've reopened yet.

That new place, the Redhead, might be right.

Allen and Delancy has a more upscale atmosphere, but it seems to fit your other requests. It will feel like more of a special birthday dinner.

Little Giant on LES for sure.

          Perbacco in EV?
