Eats before seeing the Groundlings

Hi everyone,
I'm going to see the Groundlings tonight for their 10pm show. I have some visitors in town that are a couple. I'm looking to take them somewhere that is fun and hip somewhere near the show (walking distance...if possible). They aren't super adventurous with food, so I would say Italian, New American, or something else basic, but nicely done. I'm looking for a price of about mid $20s for entrees or less.

Any help is really appreciated. Thanks!!

  1. I'm trying to cut down on my googling (or the Courts are are going to order me into a 12 click program otherwise). What is the location of the the "Groundlings" performance?

Oops, sorry. 7307 Melrose. And to clarify some more, I don't want it to be too stuffy. More of a place you can hang out for a while. Thanks!

Less than a half mile west to Table 8. Would that work?

Hmm... the lounge looks good. The more I think about it, I like the idea of a bunch of different little dishes with lots of drinks. I'm a little nervous that the dinner will be awkward with this couple. We don't know them that well....

    2. definitely definitively The Foundry. About 6 blocks west on Melrose. IMO, Table 8 has gone extremely far downhill, sadly.

      1. For Italian - head to Angeli Caffe (beer & wine only, if that makes a difference). Get the gnocchi if they are serving it... so good! The room is a bit cramped/crowded, but I've been pleased with the food and it will work for your unadventurous eaters. It's walking distance from the Groundlings, so that's an additional bonus. You'll want to make a reservation vs. just showing up.

        1. It's not walking distance, but last time I went to the Groundlings I went to Comme Ca for dinner. It's just down (or up) the street. Fits the "fun and hip" bill I think

          1. I was having trouble linking the place before, so here it is ..

            1. If you want something really close, though (like walking distance in high heels kind of close) The Village Idiot is on the corner of (I think) Martel and Melrose, where Chianti used to be. It's a loud British-pub place, fun, kind of hip (for the neighborhood locals) and they have pretty good wines by the glass (and a full bar). It's cute. Nothing earth-shattering.
