Thai Magic closed?!
Is it true? Where else can I get pad thai that isnt soupy and doesn't reek of ketchup?
It's true. The owners retired. They have a very sweet handwritten sign on the front window to thank people for their patronage. We used to take out from there on a semi-regular basis - their crispy basil beef was great. Somebody told me that a French bistro will be opening in its place (which is an odd choice given that Pastis (good) and Amuse Bouche (bad) are located within a block).
re: peppermint pate
Do you mean Avant Gout? I've been curious as to how the food is there now since they moved from Birch on to Yonge (but looks like not so good). Haven't been in over 3 years. I agree that a French bistro is an odd choice to replace Thai Magic! Thai Magic was the first place I had Thai food when I moved to the city. I wish the owners well in their retirement.
