Fantastic breakfast spot between SF and Calistoga?

Hi there,

I'm driving from SF to Calistoga on Saturday morning for an event at a winery. I'm fearing this event either a) won't have food or b) won't have good food, so am thinking it's best to stop for breakfast on the way up.

Any recommendations on a great breakfast place? Will be heading over the bridge, up 101, and then through the valley on the 29.

Thanks!

Melissa

Murray Circle, the first exit off the Golden Gate Bridge, in Sausalito has a very nice breakfast/brunch. The croissants are flat out the best I've had in my life.

From 7 - 10 am there is a buffet breakfast. On the weekend after 10 there is brunch. You can order some brunch items while the breakfast buffet is being served for an additional charge. There is a pricy basket of baked goods during the brunch. I would ask if you could just order a croisssant ... they are just that good. The eggs benedict are on house-made English muffins.

Also, the buffet offers tea bags, but if you ask you can get some wonderful loose leaf tea.

There is a lovely view of the bay and the towers of the Golden Gate Bridge.

A stop up is La Boulange which is a light breakfast. It is located behind Safeway in the Strawberry Shopping Center. If you mix the exit and see Safeway, the next exit will get you there.

Pier 15 in San Rafael has good food, but it is a little funky.

If you're leaving early and prefer to eat breakfast in the town of Napa, here are a couple of options. Boonfly Cafe at Carneros Inn and Buttercream Bakery in Napa proper. The first is definitely a tourist spot, with a trendy-casual sort of environment. Buttercream Bakery is a Napa old-timer; an institution. Both offer good food.

If you prefer to eat in Marin, then you might try Dipsea Cafe in Mill Valley (fabulous food), or Pier 15 or Bogie's in San Rafael (both solid, but not special).
