Barking Crab Newport

Has anyone tried the new Barking Crab restaurant in Newport? Any feedback?

It's in Brickmarketplace, and was to open around July 24th.

In Brick Mkt? Sounds boring. When I go to Newport, I want to eat outside.

I might be in Newport in a couple of weeks. Where's a good outdoor dining experience? Is Christie's still there? What else? Anybody know?

Christie's is no longer really there, sad to say. It's a private marina/club now. "Christie's" bought a small restaurant on a side street but nothing like that location.

22 Bowens has outdoor seating across from The Black Pearl, a little bar that sits outside the 22 Bowens restaurant, all by itself on the sidewalk. A little more upscale is Spiced Pear at The Chanler (www.spicedpear.com) .....pretty pricey but lunch isn't so bad - and the view (a hill overlooking First Beach, on a gorgeous terrace) is worth it. At the other end of the spectrum is Pineapples on Goat Island, attached to the hotel....what is it these days, a Hyatt I think? Go through the outdoor pool area and it's a little casual place for drinks & sandwiches....one of the prettiest views in Newport, overlooking the bridge.

Have not been myself but over the past few days there have been some comment posted on RI Craigs List that say The Barking Crab in Newport is terrible. No idea, of course, if the people making the comments know what they are talking about but they were none too kind!
