Tampa/St. Pete Fishmongers?

starrschaos Aug 6, 2008 09:08 PM

My SO and I have fallen in love with homemade sushi, but cannot find a fishmonger in the area to save our lives! The best we have found is Publix but that can only get you so far.

PLEASE, does anyone know of any fishmongers in the area?

Cox Seafood on Dale Mabry has beautiful fresh fish from our local waters. I had driven by for years until the Culinary Sherpas (local blog) recommended them to me. I am a regular now.

Reef's in Indian rock ( across from the Lobster pot) have cut fresh tuna that I used for sushi was great. Call the owner to coordinate . I have also bought Norweigan salmon froze it for safe eating, then defrosted it in the refrig over night.

If you are willing to cross the bridge, Star Fish and A. W. Bell fish in the village of Cortez have sushi fresh seasonals. Star has unfrozen fresh tuna consistently.
In season, Walter Bell has the best prices in the state for stone crab claws.

Try Mid Peninsula Seafood on 49th St S in St Pete. Always fresh and delicious!

We've done sushi rolls with the assistance of Land and Sea Market. There are several locations so here's their website http://www.landandseamarket.com/

In Largo Wards has always been good. You can phone them ahead of time too. They have been there well over 40 years and know their stuff!
