Breakfast with kids?
We have just moved to the New Orleans area from the west coast and I am looking for a family friendly (not too upscale, not too $$$) breakfast/pancake place in the city or Metairie. All the posts I've seen describe amazing places, but I'm not sure they would appreciate/tolerate the little ones...
We're looking for something better than Denny's/IHOP and with more to offer than just doughnuts or beignets. Would love a place with pancakes for the kids and some variety for the adults (we'd like to find a regular place for the weekend).
Any suggestions appreciated! Thanks.
Ricobono's Panola Street Cafe, I'm sure I butchered the spelling on that, but everytime I go there they always have a bunch of kids in there.
I have been going since they opened. Now my 10 yr old son loves it. Very good waffles, pancakes, and eggs benedict among other dishes.
They also have a variation of eggs benedict with a fried green tomato instead of canadian bacon, and it comes with a side. Sweet potato fries are really good. I think it's around 8 dollars? And it tatses great. They also have non breakfast items lunch, etc
Try Russell's Marina Grill, West End, right near the Lakefront

Welcome to the city. I own The Cake Cafe on the corner of Spain and Chartres in the Marigny. A great neighborhood. We are a bakery with everything homemade.as well we serve a full breakfast. Saturday and Sunday Mornings From 7am-9 or so all the young families come in for breakfast. Sorry no pancakes but lots of other goodies for you and the children. www.nolacakes.com
The Bluebird Cafe on Prytania, Surreys on Magazine, Elizabeth's on Chartres in the Bywater, Betsy's Pancake House on Canal, Ruby Slipper on South Cortez in Mid City, Bayou Coffee House on Jeff Davis in Mid City, Freret Cafe on Freret in Carrollton, Cafe Beignet in the Quarter. And please please please do not forget my kids' favorite: Cafe Du Monde.
I know I missed a few but all of these are reasonable and kid friendly. Welcome to the city!
Camellia Grill fits the bill, as long as the kids are big enough to sit on their own stools at a counter. Waffles, though, and not pancakes.
I ate at Blue Plate Cafe on Prytania this morning for the first time. It was wonderful! I had the "whole hog breakfast," which was bacon, sausage, pancakes, eggs, a biscuit and some heavenly hash browns. My friend got shrimp breakfast cakes that were equally good. I highly recommend. It's at 1330 Prytania, which is convenient to the Pontchartrain Expressway.
