winey-tasting dried figs--can I do anything?

Just got a package of dried figs and ate 3-4. They have a weird fermented winey taste that I don't like. The sell-by date is in October. Assuming they are still safe to use, do you think the winey taste can be cooked off, and can you suggest ways to prepare and use them cooked? Thanks!
